Introduction
Here are some highlights from a walk from my house that began a half hour before sunrise on the morning of 26 September 2020.
Standing in My Front Yard
Looking east. Notice Venus in the upper right.
Standing in Front of a Neighbor’s House
Still looking east and a tighter frame.
Two Blocks South of My House
Looking west. The steeple belongs to the Granite Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Steeples in America began with New England churches in colonial times. The nostalgic colonists borrowed the steeple idea from Christopher Wren’s iconic church, St. Martin of the Fields in London. (For a photo of that steeple, see “Questing for Wonder in London.”)
On Riches Street
Looking east. The two altocumulus clouds backlit by the sun grabbed my attention.
Who’s the King of Bunker Hill?
A small forest fire is causing the smoke against the mountain.
Still on Riches Street
The black line in the upper right is a crow and not a speck on the camera sensor.
On Brickyard Road
Notice the source of the smoke, mentioned earlier, from the smallish Neff’s Canyon lightning caused fire. The fire authority has contained the smoldering burn and will now wait for snow to extinguish it. The authority is allowing nature to take its course due to regulations regarding fires in federally designated wilderness, in this case the Mt. Olympus Wilderness Area.
Brickyard Chimney
The sun has finally cleared the ridgeline of the Wasatch Mountains. I like the mood created by the sideways light.

I am sometimes discouraged by the prospect of finding wonder within a few blocks of my house, and I am continually surprised by the camera helping me find it.
