Nevada Northern Railway: Part One–The Yards

Introduction

The Nevada Northern Railway is a heritage railway and museum located in Ely, Nevada. Carol and I admire the nonprofit that owns and operates the railway. Since last year we had planned to spend a weekend in Ely for railroading. Finally, that weekend arrived and Saturday was our chosen day. In the morning we had the run of the yards and shops. In the early afternoon we rode a train to an abandoned copper mine, and in the evening we rode another train into the desert. A steam locomotive pulled the afternoon train, and a diesel pulled the evening train. This post has images from the yards. Two following posts will cover the actual train rides.
