Introduction
Our third adventure with the Nevada Northern Railway (NNRy) of 18 June 2022 was an excursion north of Ely. The round trip began at 7:15 p.m. MDT and lasted two and a half hours. The outing was timed to witness the sunset on the first leg and the stars on the return leg.

Endnotes
- The Steptoe Valley is one of numerous rift valleys between the north-south trending basins and ranges of the Great Basin.
- Evenings in the desert are enchanting.
- I have always loved trains. When I was a child, everyone knew, “Steam was for freight trains and diesels for passenger trains.” I still recall the disappointing mismatch of first seeing a diesel pulling a freight train.
