Endnotes

  • A bee witnesses the lavender and salvia images.
  • The obvious stomata on the basil remind us that it is a living organism.
  • I have loved roses since childhood. My first summer job was the exacting trimming of the numerous rose plants that surrounded our parish church: St. Rose of Lima in Layton, Utah.
  • I overexposed the sky to accurately expose the pansy and to get the lightbox effect.
  • I enjoy images in which sharp focus is at a premium. I look intently at a focused element and then let my mind wander around without moving my eyes. Afterwards, I do move my eyes but relax into the blurriness to experience the colors, contrasts, and shapes.

  1. I think this is my favorite post of yours to date, Michael! I love the colors, the depth of field, the textures, and the natural compositions! Well done! I’m a big garden fan (even the honey bees)!

    1. Hi Susie, Your encouraging comment came at a crucial time. I twice considered taking this post down. You are an extraordinary teacher because you literally open my eyes to the qualities of vision. Gratefully, Michael
